We started Emily’s senior photo session at Wichita Northwest High School to photograph her in one of her favorite spots: the softball field. One of Emily’s passions is softball, so it was fun photographing her with her bat, glove, and on the field where she feels inspired and comfortable. Emily recently found out she will have the opportunity to continue her softball career in college, so it was an exciting time to be capturing her on the field.
After her softball photos, we moved on to Sedgwick County Park in Wichita, Kansas. This is such a beautiful park for photography. We saw other groups at the park that morning getting professional family photos taken, and it’s easy to see why. The leaves and trees make for a beautiful backdrop, and the park is big enough that it has tons of tucked away spots to make a public, outdoor photography session still relaxed and comfortable. One of my favorite places in the park is a covered bridge that makes for beautiful photos, and Emily also found an old-style, rustic truck in the park that she was excited to use as a prop for some of her senior photos.
It was a beautiful morning for Emily’s senior portraits, and it was the perfect time of year for Fall colors and turning leaves. One of my favorite shots was of Emily throwing leaves into the air because of her playful, genuine expression. Not only were the leaves beautiful in the photo, but we also had a lot of fun as we fought the Kansas wind to get just the right shot.
Senior photography is so different from wedding photography which is why they complement each other so well. I am of course passionate about wedding photography because it’s such a special day in the lives of each couple, but senior photography has its own joy in getting to learn about the interests, hopes, dreams, and plans of each senior. It’s such a unique area of photography and allows me to work with each senior to find out how they want to be photographed and how they want to remember such a pivotal time in their life. For Emily, photographing her on the softball field knowing that she was just accepted to play in college and will continue to carry out that passion and dream of hers was a great opportunity and one that I don’t take for granted.
This was not only a fun session, but it’s one that I will remember for a long time. Best of luck to Emily as she continues on and follows her passion for softball!
